Kole Fenton named ABCA/Rawlings NJCAA DI Gold Glove Shortstop
MORRISTOWN, TN – Kole Fenton became the second player in program history to win a Gold Glove, Rawlings announced on Wednesday.
Fenton was named the ABCA/Rawlings NJCAA DI Gold Glove winning shortstop. The only other player from Walters State to ever be named a Gold Glover was Brent Honeywell in 2014.
Fenton, a freshman from Dyersburg, earned the honor after putting together one of the best defensive seasons in Walters State history. In 186 total chances, Fenton had 70 putouts, 112 assists and just four errors for a fielding percentage of .978. Fenton helped turn 19 double plays, as well and did not make an error in the final 19 games of the season.
In 32 TCCAA games, Fenton had a fielding percentage of .980 and made just two errors in 100 chances. In 24 games at home, Fenton didn't make an error in 66 total chances.
Offensively, Fenton hit .376 with five home runs and 57 RBIs. He stole 25 bases. Fenton played in 65 of Walters State's 68 games on the season.
Fenton helped lead Walters State to a 59-8-1 record, a Region 7 Championship, an Appalachian District Championship and a Runner-Up finish at the JUCO World Series. Fenton was also named to the All-TCCAA Second Team.
