Sean Robinson named ABCA NJCAA DI Baseball Assistant Coach of the Year
MORRISTOWN, TN – Since he joined the Walters State baseball coaching staff in 2014, Sean Robinson has been vital to the success the Senators baseball program has had.
The 2025 baseball season was no different, as Robinson's pitching staff was key in Walters State's journey all the way to the JUCO World Series Championship game. On Tuesday, Robinson was honored for that success as he was named the American Baseball Coaches Association NJCAA DI Assistant Baseball Coach of the Year.
"It is an honor to receive the 2025 ABCA/Soldier Sports NJCAA DI Assistant Coach of the Year Award," Robinson said. "Being recognized by this organization at our level in junior college shows how much the ABCA cares about the coaches and the sport of baseball. I think back to my first year coaching and can't believe that same guy is now receiving this special award.
"The players make the coach, and I couldn't have done it without the players on the field last year and the years prior, as they all have contributed to my coaching knowledge, philosophy and success. Also, thank you to our head coach Dave Shelton, who hired me as a first-year coach to undertake the pitching coach role for the prestigious Walters State program. I'm grateful that he has kept me along for the ride and look for continued success for our program under his guidance."
In 2025, Robinson's pitching staff led the country in strikeouts with 594 and in K/9 at 10.95. Robinson's pitching staff was led by Aiden Robertson, who led the country with 130 strikeouts and was second in wins with 13. Robertson was named an NJCAA DI First Team All-American, and six of Robinson's pitchers on the 2025 staff are now pitching at 4-year colleges.
The 2025 team finished the season with a 59-8-1 record, a TCCAA/Region 7 Championship, an Appalachian District Championship and a Runner-Up finish at the JUCO World Series.
While the award was for the 2025 season, the success Robinson's pitchers have had since 2014 has been remarkable. 18 pitchers under Robinson's guidance at Walters State have been taken in the MLB Draft, and seven have pitched in the Major Leagues. Robinson has coached 69 pitchers who have signed with DI schools. Six pitchers have won TCCAA Pitcher of the Year under Robinson, and two have been named the NJCAA National Pitcher of the Year: Jake Miednik in 2016 and Kohl Drake in 2022.
Walters State has put together a record of 600-130 since Robinson came to Walters State in 2014, and the Senators made six trips to the JUCO World Series during that time.
