No. 16 Walters State scores 38 runs in doubleheader sweep of Roane State
HARRIMAN, TN – No. 16 Walters State scored 38 runs on Monday against Roane State, sweeping a doubleheader from the Raiders. The Senators won 11-0 in game one and 27-3 in game two.
With the sweep, the Senators moved to 42-10 on the season.
GAME ONE: No. 16 Walters State 11, Roane State 0 (5 Innings)
In game one, Drew Blalock and Justin Bell allowed just three hits in the five-inning victory.
Blalock (1-1) got the start on the mound and threw three innings, allowing two hits and striking out two. Bell replaced him in the fourth and threw the final two innings. He allowed one hit and struck out two.
At the plate, Holden Pantier homered and drove in five runs. Hayden Blair and Jackson Berry also hit home runs, and Kole Fenton had two hits and three RBIs.
Following a run in the first on an error that scored Blair, the Senators made it 2-0 in the second inning when Berry smacked a solo home run. In the fourth, Walters State added to its lead with five more runs. Luke Graham got things going with a walk, and Jaxon Walker was hit by a pitch to put two on. That brought up Fenton, and he singled home Graham to make it 3-0. Pantier was the next batter, and it was quickly 6-0, as he smacked his 20th home run of the season. The final run of the inning came on a Blair solo home run that made it 7-0.
In the fifth, Walters State closed things out with four more runs. Those runs scored on two-RBI singles by both Fenton and Pantier that made it 11-0.
GAME TWO: No. 16 Walters State 27, Roane State 3 (5 Innings)
In game two, the Senators scored 14 runs in the opening inning and were off from there.
Pantier had two more hits in the game, including his 28th double of the season, which broke the program record for doubles in a season. Pantier had three RBIs in the game, as well, putting him at 100 for the season.
Along with Pantier, Drew Blalock hit two more home runs to put his season total at 22. Blalock drove in four runs, as did Luke Jenkins. Jenkins, Pantier, Shore and Bell each homered.
On the mound, Sam Martell got the start and threw two innings. Martell allowed three runs on two hits and struck out five. Dakota Crumbley pitched the next inning and didn't allow a hit, and Mason Grindstaff struck out two in a scoreless fourth. Ryan Perkins (1-1) threw the final inning and struck out one.
The first inning saw 19 Walters State batters come to the plate and 14 cross the plate. Those runs scored on three wild pitches, a three-run home run by Shore, an RBI single by Berry, a Pantier sacrifice fly that scored Berry, a Blair two-RBI single, a Blalock two-run home run and a Bell two-run home run that made it 14-0.
In the second, the Senators tacked on two more runs as Blalock hit his second two-run home run of the game. Roane State got on the board with three in the bottom of the second, but Walters State scored eight more in the third. Jenkins started things with a two-run home run, and Pantier went back-to-back with a solo shot. Brady Dalton then singled home a run, and Bell hit a sacrifice fly to score Blair. The final three runs came around on a Graham three-RBI triple that made it 24-3.
Walters State's final three runs of the game scored on a two-RBI double by Jenkins and an RBI double from Pantier in the fifth that made it 27-3.
