Six score double figures in No. 23 Walters State’s 117-59 win over Tusculum JV
MORRISTOWN, TN – After a slow start to Tuesday's game against Tusculum JV, the No. 23 Walters State men's basketball team scored 69 points in the second half on its way to a 117-59 win over the Pioneers.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 2-0 on the season.
Jamar Livingston led the way for the Senators in the game with 19 points and five steals, while Da'Mori Lytch added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Walters State had four more in double figures, as Tyrese Stovall had 18 points, Trae Rideau finished with 14 points and four assists, Carter Webb hit four 3-pointers and had 12 points and Jayden Nesbitt added 10 points and four rebounds.
Other contributors for Walters State were Brian Carter with eight points and five rebounds, Caiden Bauldwin with seven points and four assists, Taquez Butler with six points, Malaki Brooks with three points and Jaquavious Wallace with two points.
Lytch scored four points to get Walters State out to a 6-2 lead, and two free throws by Nesbitt and a bucket by Wallace increased the lead to 14-5. Walters State continued to push, and Bauldwin dunked one home to make it 19-8. However, Tusculum scored eight straight to cut the lead to three.
Rideau scored, and Webb hit a three to get Walters State back out in front by eight, but Tusculum had the lead down to 26-23 with seven minutes to go. Livingston ended the run with a 3-pointer, and Rideau made a layup to make it 31-23, but again Tusculum kept it close with four straight. The lead was at 35-32 with four minutes to go in the half, but Carter scored, Stovall had four straight and Carter scored again to make it 43-32. Brooks hit a three with under a minute left, and the Senators took a 48-35 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Walters State came out firing. Livingston hit a three early, and baskets by Rideau and Lytch made it 63-42. It was 69-44 following a 3-pointer by Webb, and it was 77-46 after eight straight points by Stovall. Following seven straight points from Tusculum, Walters State answered with 14 points of its own. During the run, Lytch scored four, Butler hit two free throws, Rideau scored, Livingston hit a three and Bauldwin scored three to make it 91-53.
From there, Walters State cruised to the win. In the second half, Livingston had 16 points while Webb added nine. Stovall and Lytch each scored 12 points, as well.
