Senators grab 80-61 win over Southwest Tennessee in TCCAA opener
MEMPHIS, TN – No. 23 Walters State broke out to an 18-point halftime lead over Southwest Tennessee on Saturday and went on for an 80-61 win.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in TCCAA play.
Jamar Livingston led the way for Walters State with 18 points and made three 3-pointers. Taquez Butler added 12 points and five assists, and Da'Mori Lytch had 11 points and eight rebounds.
Other contributors for the Senators were Tyrese Stovall with 10 points and four rebounds, Jayden Nesbitt with eight points and seven rebounds, Jaquavious Wallace with seven points and four rebounds, Trae Rideau with four points, Brian Carter with four points and three assists, Carter Webb with three points and five rebounds, Mou Riiny with two points and Malaki Brooks with one point.
The Senators started slow to begin the game but closed the half strong and led 40-22 at the half. In the second half, the Senators started quick with Butler throwing an alley-oop off the backboard to Lytch. Walters State got up 25 and were never threatened again on their way to an 80-61 win over the Saluqis.
