Lytch scores 24 in No. 19 Walters State’s 100-69 win over Roane State
MORRISTOWN, TN – Da'Mori Lytch was one of numerous contributors for the No. 19 Walters State men's basketball team on Wednesday evening against Roane State, scoring 24 points in the Senators 100-69 win over the Raiders.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in TCCAA play.
Lytch had 20 points in the second half for the Senators and led the charge with 24 points, and Taquez Butler added 16 points. Tyrese Stovall and Jayden Nesbitt each scored 13 points as well, and Carter Webb finished with 11 points. Other contributors were Malaki Brooks with six points, Jaceion Coffey with six points, Trae Rideau with five points, Jaquavious Wallace with four points and Caiden Bauldwin with two points.
Walters State scored the first seven points in the game, five coming from Butler, and then got up 18-5 following baskets by Nesbitt and Lytch, a three by Brooks, two free throws by Wallace and a dunk from Stovall. The lead continued to grow and was 22-9 after four straight from Stovall. Roane State cut it to single digits at 26-17, but Butler scored, Lytch hit two free throws and Rideau hit a trey that gave Walters State a 36-19 lead.
The Senators continued to comfortably lead, and Coffey hit a corner three to make it 43-22. Butler scored three points in the final three minutes, and Walters State led 47-30 at the break.
In the second half, Walters State came out with a point to prove. The lead quickly got to 22 after a thunderous dunk from Lytch, and the Senators led 65-39 following another Lytch basket, two Webb free throws and a Stovall made shot. The lead reached 29 when Lytch scored four in a row, and Coffey and Webb hit back-to-back 3-pointers with 6:30 to go that made it 87-59.
From there, Walters State was never threatened. The Senators capped off the win with a Wallace pass off the backboard to Lytch for the slam to reach 100 points.
