Balanced effort leads No. 16 Walters State to 110-59 win over Pellissippi State
MORRISTOWN, TN – Seven scored in double figures for No. 16 Walters State on Wednesday evening, and the Senators went on for a 110-59 win over Pellissippi State.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 15-0 on the season and 7-0 in TCCAA play. The 15 wins tie the 2016-17 start for consecutive wins to open up a season.
Carter Webb led the way for Walters State in the game with 17 points, 14 coming in the second half, and Jamar Livingston and Brian Carter each added 14 points. Other scorers for Walters State were Malaki Brooks with 10 points, Jaquavious Wallace with 10 points, Jayden Nesbitt with 10 points, Tyrese Stovall with 10 points, Da'Mori Lytch with nine points, Taquez Butler with seven points, Caiden Bauldwin with five points, Jaceion Coffey with three points and Trae Rideau with one point.
Walters State came out red hot to open up the game, with Butler drilling a triple, Nesbitt scoring, Butler dunking one home and Lytch hitting two free throws and dunking one to make it 11-0. Pellissippi made a free throw to get on the scoreboard, but Brooks hit a three and Nesbitt scored to make it 16-1.
The Panthers calmed the storm with four points, but the Senators answered back with a Carter basket, a Webb three, a Stovall bucket and a Lytch made shot that gave Walters State a 25-5 advantage. Walters State continued to comfortably lead, getting it to 32-8 after Nesbitt scored, but the Panthers put together six straight to cut the lead to 32-14. However, in the final 5:30 of the half, the Senators outscored Pellissippi State 17-2 and led 49-16 at the break. Livingston hit a three during the run, while Stovall had a reverse dunk and Carter completed an old fashioned 3-point play.
In the second half, Livingston scored five quick ones to get the lead to 60-18. Webb got in on the fun with nine straight points, making it 69-20, and it was 80-35 after Livingston hit two more 3-pointers and Coffey hit a triple. Webb hit one more 3-pointer in the half to make it 85-42, and Walters State was off from there. Wallace capped things off with a slam dunk, and the Senators picked up their 15th straight win.
In the final 20 minutes, Webb had 14 points while Livingston had 11. Carter scored seven points, as well.
