Six score double figures in No. 16 Walters State’s 99-87 win over Volunteer State
GALLATIN, TN – No. 16 Walters State outshot Volunteer State on Saturday, picking up a 99-87 win over the Pioneers.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 20-1 on the season and 12-1 in TCCAA play.
Brian Carter led the way for Walters State for the third straight game, finishing with 21 points. Carter Webb added 17 points, as well, and Da'Mori Lytch had 15 points. Other scorers for Walters State were Jamar Livingston with 13 points, Taquez Butler with 11 points, Jayden Nesbitt with 10 points, Malaki Brooks with seven points, Tyrese Stovall with three points and Trae Rideau with two points.
The Senators shot 54% from the field in the game and made 10 3-pointers.
It was a close start to the game, but Walters State pulled away late and led 52-36 at the break. Nesbitt scored all 10 of his points in the first half, while Carter led the way with 13 points. Webb hit two 3-pointers, as well.
In the second half, Volunteer State remained close, but Walters State got its lead up to 17 points and coasted to the win. Webb scored 11 more points in the final 20 minutes of the game, while Livingston hit a three and had 10 points. Carter added eight more points, as well.
