13th-ranked Senators avenge lone loss of the season with 104-56 win over Motlow State
MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 13 Walters State left no doubt on Wednesday evening against Motlow State, avenging their lone loss of the season with a 104-56 win over the Bucks on Homecoming.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 26-1 overall and 18-1 in TCCAA play. Walters State went a perfect 15-0 at home this season.
Brian Carter led the way with 20 points for Walters State, and Jamar Livingston had 14 second half points and finished with 17 points. Other scorers for the Senators were Carter Webb with 13 points, Tyrese Stovall with 12 points, Da'Mori Lytch with 11 points, Trae Rideau with nine points, Taquez Butler with eight points, Malaki Brooks with five points, Caiden Bauldwin with five points and Jayden Nesbitt with four points.
Walters State came out fired up, as Livingston hit a three and Nesbitt scored. Motlow State cut things to 7-5 a minute later, but Butler scored and Webb hit back-to-back three's that made it 15-5. Motlow scored after, but Rideau hit a free throw, Carter scored, Webb scored and Carter dunked one home to make it 22-7 and force a Motlow timeout.
Carter exited the timeout with a three, and Stovall got the lead to 27-7 with a basket. Later in the half, Lytch scored four straight to make it 33-13, and Rideau threw in a trey with 6:14 left to get the lead to 39-19. Rideau scored again right after, and Nesbitt had a dunk that forced another Motlow timeout and made it 44-19. Walters State closed strong, and Webb capped off the half with a 3-pointer to make it 53-27 at the break.
In the second half, Walters State picked up right where they left off. Livingston led the charge, scoring nine points in the first five minutes to make it 64-32. Stovall then converted an and-one, and Lytch scored to up the advantage to 70-34. Walters State continued to lead comfortably over the next few minutes, and Bauldwin hit a 3-pointer at the 8:38 mark that made it 79-42. Bauldwin then dunked one home to make it 84-42, and Walters State cruised in the final five minutes to take the win.
In the second half, Livingston had 14 points, while Stovall added eight and Carter and Lytch had seven. Brooks hit a three and had five points, as well.
