Senators in first place after opening day of NJCAA DII Southeast District
BRISTOL, VA – Walters State sits in first place after the opening day of the NJCAA DII Southeast District on Monday at Country Club of Bristol.
The Senators shot 2-under over the first two rounds of the tournament, putting them 18 shots ahead of second-place Roane State. Additionally, Bowen Brantley is tied for the individual lead at 3-under.
In his opening round of the day, Brantley shot even-par on the front nine with a birdie on the ninth hole and caught fire on the back nine with birdies on holes 12, 13, 16 and 18 to shoot 3-under on the round. In round two, Brantley shot even-par with birdies on holes two, 13, 14 and 15.
Along with Brantley, Nick Talley is in a tie for fourth-place at even-par. Talley shot 3-under in his opening round, birdieing holes two and seven on the front-nine before shooting four-under on the back-nine with birdies on holes 10, 13, 14, 15 and 18. In his second round, Talley birdied the second hole and shot 3-over, 74.
Sloan Brooks is next for the Senators in a tie for sixth-place at 1-over. Starting on the third hole, Brooks birdied the eighth and 11th holes and closed strong with an eagle on the par-5 second hole to shoot 1-under in the round. In his second round, Brooks had birdies on holes two, nine, 13 and 14 and shot 2-over, 73.
Rounding out the team is Alex Gaetz in eighth-place at 4-over and Blake Woody in a tie for ninth-place at 5-over. Gaetz had birdies on holes two and 14 in his first round and shot 3-over and birdied holes two, nine and 17 in his second round and shot 1-over. Meanwhile, Woody birdied holes one and 14 in his first round and shot 6-over but birdied seven holes in his second round and shot 1-under. Woody birdied the second, third, ninth, 11th, 13th, 14th and 16th holes.
