Senators win Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout
JOHNSON CITY, TN – Walters State picked up its first win of the spring season on Tuesday, taking home the top spot at the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout.
As a team, Walters State shot 16-over to win by three shots. The Senators shot seven-over in round one and followed it up with a nine-over in round two.
Leading the way for Walters State was Maddox Butler, earning All-Tournament honors with a second-place finish at one-over. Butler shot two-over in his opening round, with a birdie on hole eight and just one bogey and a double bogey. In round two, Butler shot one-under. Butler was two-under on the front-nine, with birdies on holes three, four, six and nine, and birdied the 13th hole on the back-nine.
Along with Butler, Greyson Smith finished in seventh place at four-over. Smith had birdies on the third, fifth, 11th, 12th and 17th holes in his opening round and shot two-over. He followed it up with a two-over in round two, birdieing holes eight, nine, 15 and 17 and eagling the 485-yard par-5 13th.
Next for Walters State was Ayden Smith in 15th place at seven-over. Smith shot four-over over his first 18 holes and followed it up with a three-over in round two. Smith birdied holes two and 17 in round one and holes two, five and 13 in round two.
Rounding out the team were Alex Gaetz in 20th place at nine-over and Blake Dawson in 33rd place at 12-over. Gaetz was one-under in his first round, bogeying just two holes and birdieing the 11th, 13th and 17th holes. He followed it up with a 10-over in round two, and he birdied the first hole. Meanwhile, Dawson birdied the third hole and shot seven-over in round one and birdied the first and second holes in round two and shot five-over.
Playing as an individual, Owen King finished in a tie for 52nd at 23-over. King shot 11-over in round one and birdied the third hole. He followed it up with a 12-over in round two with a birdie on the 11th hole.
