CHATTANOOGA, TN – Walters State fell twice to Chattanooga State on Thursday, dropping 7-2 and 6-2 contests.
With the losses, the Lady Senators fell to 14-14 overall and 8-4 in TCCAA play.
GAME ONE: Chattanooga State 7, Walters State 2
In game one, the Lady Senators scored a run in the top of the first but were unable to sustain any offense after that.
Addison Beech led the way at the plate with two hits, while Nyah Mullins hit a home run. Alayna Ross also drove in a run.
In the circle, Summer Smith got the start and threw 1.2 innings. Smith allowed two runs on four hits. Lauren Ruehl replaced Smith with two outs in the second and threw the final 4.1 innings, giving up five runs on three hits while striking out one.
The Lady Senators got off to a great start to the game, as Beech led off with a double and scored on a two-out RBI single by Ross. However, Chattanooga State scored two in the bottom of the inning and one in the bottom of the third to go up 3-1.
In the fourth, the Lady Senators cut the lead to one as Mullins smacked a solo home run over the fence in left. Unfortunately for Walters State, Chattanooga scored one run in the fifth and three in the sixth to put the game away.
GAME TWO: Chattanooga State 6, Walters State 2
In game two, the Lady Senators continued to struggle at the plate, totaling four hits.
Lauren Ruehl led the way for Walters State in the game with a home run. Beech, Ross and Mullins picked up the other hits for the Lady Senators.
In the circle, Allie Jones got the start and threw 0.2 innings. Jones allowed three runs on two hits. Ross replaced her in the first and threw the next 4.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits, and Summer Smith pitched a scoreless sixth inning.
Chattanooga State scored three runs in the bottom of the first to go up early, but Walters State cut into the lead in the second with a run, as Ruehl led off the inning with a solo home run. However, Chattanooga State answered with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth.
In the sixth, Ross and Mullins led the inning off with singles. Following a strikeout, the Lady Senators scored a run on an error that made it 6-2. Unfortunately, that was all they could get.
