ROME, GA – Walters State fell twice to Georgia Highlands on Sunday, dropping a 10-0 game and an 8-3 contest.
With the losses, the Lady Senators fell to 14-16 on the season.
GAME ONE: Georgia Highlands 10, Walters State 0 (5 Innings)
In game one, the Lady Senators had just one hit in the loss.
Kacey Pillion picked up the lone hit for the Lady Senators. In the circle, Summer Smith got the start and gave up four runs on one hit. Allie Jones replaced her in the first and threw 2.2 innings, allowing six runs on four hits and striking out two. Lauren Ruehl then picked up an out, before Carla Burge pitched a scoreless fourth inning.
Georgia Highlands scored four in the first and six in the third. The Lady Senators' hit came in the fourth inning, a double by Pillion, but the Lady Senators were unable to bring her home.
GAME TWO: Georgia Highlands 8, Walters State 3
In game two, Addison Beech went a perfect 4-4 at the plate and scored a run.
Along with Beech, Allie Seritt and Jordan Pena each drove in runs.
In the circle, Ruehl got the start and gave up a run. Following Ruehl, Smith threw five innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits and struck out one. Burge allowed two runs in the sixth inning.
Georgia Highlands scored a run in the first to take an early lead, but Walters State got the run back in the top of the second when Pena singled to score Nyah Mullins. Georgia Highlands took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second, but the Lady Senators again tied the game, this time in the third when Seritt tripled and scored Beech.
However, Georgia Highlands scored four in the fifth and two in the sixth to take the win. Walters State picked up a run in the seventh on a Brittanie Layton single and error that scored her, but that was all.
