8th-ranked Lady Senators power past Dyersburg State, 59-40
DYERSBURG, TN – No. 8 Walters State used a strong second half on Saturday to take care of Dyersburg State, 59-40.
With the win, the Lady Senators improved to 10-0 overall and 6-0 in TCCAA play.
"Happy to get a road win, especially with three of our last four games being six hours away," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said. "I am proud of how this group responded tonight. Anaya (Mulholland-Natt) was steady from start to finish, and (Terryauna) Griffin is getting back into her rhythm."
Leading the way for Walters State in the scoring column was Terryauna Griffin with 16 points. Raegan Starks added 14 points, and Nyjah Gibbs finished with 10 points. Other contributors for Walters State were Anaya Mulholland-Natt with six points, Malon Smith with six points, Malia Wilcox with three points, Paradise Fisher with two points and Tierra Coleman with two points.
Walters State started strong in the opening quarter, scoring 19 points and leading 19-14. Griffin had nine points in the first 10 minutes, while Gibbs and Smith each added four.
In the second, the Lady Senators defense held Dyersburg State to just 10 points, and Walters State led 31-24 at the break. Griffin had six more points in the quarter, and Fisher, Coleman and Mulholland-Natt each scored.
The third quarter was more defense from Walters State, holding Dyersburg to seven points, and Walters State led 42-31 after three. Starks scored six points in the third, while Wilcox hit a 3-pointer.
In the fourth, Walters State held Dyersburg to nine points while they scored 17 of their own to take the win. Starks had eight points in the final 10 minutes, while Gibbs added four.
