Lady Senators split doubleheader with Dyersburg State
MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State let a late lead slip away on Saturday in game one against Dyersburg State, falling 11-10, but bounced back with a 7-3 win over the Lady Eagles in game two.
With the split, the Lady Senators moved to 9-11 on the season and 3-1 in TCCAA play.
GAME ONE: Dyersburg State 11, Walters State 10
In game one, the Lady Senators led 8-2 after four innings but could not hold on.
Kacey Pillion led the way once again, going 3-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Pillion finished the weekend with 10 hits, five home runs and eight RBIs.
Jordan Pena and Nyah Mullins also homered in the game, and Pena and Addison Beech each had two RBIs. Beech had three hits, as well.
In the circle, Allie Jones got the start and threw 3.2 innings throughout the game. Jones gave up two runs on six hits and struck out four. Lauren Ruehl replaced Jones and threw 3.1 innings in the game, allowing nine runs, five earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts.
Pillion got things going, much like she did yesterday, hammering a two-run home run in the first to make it 2-0. The lead was 3-0 in the second, when Pena smacked a solo shot over the fence in center, but Dyersburg scored one in the third and one in the fourth to cut the Lady Senators advantage to 3-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Senators increased their lead as Beech doubled home two runs, Pillion singled home Beech, a passed ball scored Pillion and a passed ball scored Mullins to make it 8-2. However, Dyersburg scored four in the fifth and five in the seventh to take an 11-8 lead. Mullins got a run back when she left off the bottom of the seventh with a home run, and Pena grounded out but scored Lilly Killebrew to make it 11-10. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Lady Senators would get.
GAME TWO: Walters State 7, Dyersburg State 3
In game two, Brianice Silguero hammered a grand slam to propel the Lady Senators to the win.
Silguero had two hits in the game and drove in four runs to lead the charge. Beech added three more hits, while Brenna Hunley had two hits. Mullins homered again, as well.
In the circle, Alayna Ross pitched a complete game. Ross allowed three runs on 10 hits and struck out four.
Dyersburg State struck first in the game with a solo home run in the third and a solo home run in the fourth. However, the Lady Senators answered back in the fourth. Hunley singled with one out and moved to second on an error that allowed Pena to reach. Michayla Franzen then singled to load the bases, and Silguero drove them all home with a grand slam that gave Walters State a 4-2 lead.
In the fifth, Walters State added on. Mullins got things going with a solo home run, her fourth of the season. Killebrew scored on a passed ball later in the inning, and Franzen hit a sacrifice fly that scored Pena to make it 7-2.
Dyersburg got a run in the seventh, but that was all as Ross finished off the complete game.

Walters State is back in action next Friday, taking on Volunteer State on the road. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3 pm ET.
